Vilnius University (VU) Botanic Garden was founded in 1781. Historical circumstances led to the Botanic Garden several times moved from one place to another. The Garden owns the land in two last historical areas (in Vingis Park and Kairėnai) at present. Modern Botanic Garden is not only the largest in Lithuania (the total area of 199 hectares) but also have the richest collections of plants: here grown about 10,000 taxa of plants belonging to 190 families, 886 genera. Richest and most impressive collections are rhododendrons, lilacs, lianas, peonies, dahlias and bulb flowers. Vilnius University Botanical Garden is sight worthy as a heritage object too - in both areas before were manors. Part of old manor and Old Park with ponds survived through centuries and is adapted for visitors in Kairėnai. Various cultural events (concerts, art exhibitions) take place in the Garden. There is possibility to go riding or take horse carriage, rent a room for conference. Illustrated guidebooks and broadly developed information system is ready for individual visitors. Guided tours could be arranged. There are recreational and picnic areas too.
